ADOPTED BY THE ARTICULATION & GENERAL STUDIES COMMITTEE
November 14, 1997

These definitions apply to the guidelines provided for the Articulation and General Studies Agreement only.

Native Student: A person who is attending an institution of postsecondary education either in person or by correspondence and who has not attended a previous postsecondary institution with or without credit earned.

Transfer Student: A person who is attending or has been known to previously attend an institution of postsecondary education either in person or by correspondence with or without credit, including earned non-traditional credit (I.e., by examination, ACE, dual credit, etc.). The receiving institution has the responsibility for deciding applicability of credit in the student's program.

Special Categories of Definition to Native or Transfer Students:

Transient Student Status: A special category of definition given to a student who wishes to attend an institution other than the home institution on a temporary basis. The following conditions apply:

  1. The student must adhere to the home institutions policy for transient student status. This policy must be consistent with the policies of the statewide Articulation and General Studies Program.
  2. The student must present written evidence of advisement from the home institution that identifies the recommended courses the student is advised to take while on transient status. In the advisement process, in order to facilitate articulation of credit, these courses should be approved for transfer back to the home institution.

Concurrent Enrollment: A special category of definition given to a student enrolled at two institutions simultaneously. The following conditions apply:

  1. The student must declare a home institution.
  2. The student must adhere to the home institution's policy on concurrent enrollment status.
  3. The home institution's policy must be consistent with the policies of the statewide Articulation and General Studies program.
