1. Transferring
from an Alabama Public Two-Year Community College
to another Alabama Public Two-Year Community College |
 |
Thank you for using STARS. You should
have no problem transferring among Alabama public two-year
community colleges. The two-year community colleges in the
state work from a common course directory. That means all
their courses have the same course numbers and course content.
Basically, all the community colleges offer courses from this
common course directory and all the courses should be the
same no matter what community college offers them. All your
credits should transfer within the community college system
with no loss of credits.

Thank you for using STARS. At this

relating to your situation. It is strongly recommended that
prior to graduation from high school that you begin to think
about possible careers (majors). In addition, you should begin
to investigate possible college/university choices. If you
have not yet chosen a college/university, we would strongly
encourage you to attend one of the public institutions of
higher education in Alabama. Once you have decided where you
will attend school, we will better be able to assist you with

9. I am not planning

Thank you for using STARS. In this situation,
you will be consider a transient student. You will need to
go by the records office at your home institution and file
paperwork for transient student status. During the process
of filling out the paperwork, someone in the records office
or an advisor should help you decide what courses they will
accept as credit from the other institution.

10. I am not planning
to transfer but need a STARS guide for an assignment at my
Two-Year
Community College |
 |
Thank you for using STARS. The Alabama
Two-Year Community College System has begun a campaign to
better inform students of the STARS System and how it can
save them
time and money if they ultimately plan to transfer to a four-year
university in Alabama. As a result, you, as a two-year student,
may be required through an orientation or some other class
assignment to go out on the STARS System and print a transfer
guide in the major(s) of your choice. Sometimes, students
who attend two-year community colleges do not plan to pursue
additional education beyond the first two-years. This is ok.
However, one day, those same students may decide that they
do want to transfer in-state to a four-year college and begin
to work toward a bachelor's degree. In this case, it would
be wise for the student to have a STARS Transfer Guide to
fall back on (or at least have the knowledge to know how to
go out on the web and obtain the state approved transfer information).
For this reason, it might be beneficial to you to take five
minutes to learn how to print a transfer guide. Also, in some
cases, you may have to show that you can accomplish this task
to meet some type of freshman orientation class requirement.
PLEASE NOTE: By obtaining a transfer guide,
you are not required to transfer to a four-year school
at some later point in time.
Look at the guide as a "transfer insurance policy." You
may never use it, but it might just come in handy one day. PLUS
IT IS FREE AND IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO OBTAIN!
You will need to go back to the our Advising
page and assume that you will transfer to an Alabama public
four-year university.
