FOLLOW-UP AND FINALIZE TRANSFER PLANS

GOALS OF UNIT:

  1. Impress upon students the importance of following-up on initial transfer research
    • Discuss how academic requirements, admission requirements, and deadlines change from year to year and sometimes semester to semester.
    • Show differences in catalogs from one year to the next.
    • Encourage students to find a contact person at the institution to which they plan to transfer that they can use to get feedback or find answers to transfer questions.

    TIME: Approximately 5-10 minutes

  2. Use trivia game setup to recap information learn in Unit 1 and 2
    • Divide students into groups by either major or by institution to which they plan to transfer.
    • If they have web access, allow them to use the web to find answers to questions regarding transferring (these could be typed-up in advance and printed for each group).
    • If they don't have web access, allow them to use the "Transfer Survival Kits" that they have compiled.
    • Award points for accurate answers.
    • Give prizes to top teams (i.e., gift certificates to area restaurants, donated gifts from area business, etc.)
  3. TIME: Approximately 20-30 minutes

  4. Students share with class the information they found out about their prospective transfer institutions
    • Have students take a few minutes (time allowed depends on class size) to share a few important pieces of information that they gathered in their "Transfer Survival Kit."
  5. TIME: Approximately 20-30 minutes

  6. Have students turn in their "Transfer Survival Kits." (Make sure you return them to the students by the end of the semester.)

    TIME: Approximately 5 minutes
